HENDRIX SIGNS DEFINITIVE AGREEMENT
FOR ACQUISITION OF DEKALB POULTRY RESEARCH, INC.
Today the management boards of Hendrix
Poultry Breeders BV (HPB), and Dekalb Poultry Research, Inc have signed
a definitive agreement for the acquisition by Hendrix Poultry Breeders
BV of Dekalb Poultry Research, Inc.(DPRI). 24 May 2000, an asset purchase
agreement was signed as part of a reorganisation process. This agreement
was approved by the Court in Rockford, Illinois, USA, 19 June 2000.
HPB will relocate DPRI's genepool,
R&D, pureline breeding, production and sales to The Netherlands. Recurrent
testing will be continued in North America and several other parts of the
world. HPB will continue breeding and marketing of DPRI products under
the current brandname DEKALB.
"Through the combined genepools,
know how and scientific capabilities HPB will become a stronger player
in the world wide layer breeding business and will enjoy scale benefits.
Cost savings can be realised from the combined operations, particularly
in the areas of back up facilities and field testing of commercial products"
says Thijs Hendrix, President of HPB.
"The combination of DEKALB,
BOVANS and HISEX pure lines into one organisation will give HPB access
to a wider range of genetic lines thereby providing better opportunity
to supply clients with the ideal product for each market segment" adds
Frans van Sambeek, Director Research & Development of HPB.
The 100.000 Parent Stock breeder
farm at Clarion, Iowa, the DEKALB MidAmerica Hatchery, with an annual capacity
for 7.500.000 female chicks, located in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and the 50%
ownership in DEKALB Ozark Hatchery, a 6.500.000 female chicks hatchery,
located near Neosho, Missouri, will be integrated into the organisation
of Centurion Poultry, Inc, (CPI) based in Lexington, Georgia.
CPI is the exclusive distributor
of BOVANS, DEKALB and HISEX in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Dekalb Poultry Research, Inc.
DPRI is a layer breeding company
based in Dekalb, Illinois, USA.
DPRI was founded in 1944 and is
one of the most respected poultry breeding companies in the world. DPRI
was one of the first modern breeding companies using inbred hybridisation
techniques in poultry breeding. Today sophisticated statistical and molecular
genetics are utilised to genetically improve DEKALB's valuable genepool.
In 1971 DPRI acquired the J.J.Warren
Company and its brown egg genetics lines to better serve the growing world
wide demand for brown egg birds. In 1974 Kimber Farms was acquired adding
important genetics for disease resistance and egg quality characteristics.
DPRI was a part of DEKALB Genetics
Corporation until April of 1995 when the company was sold to Central
Farm of America. Central Farm of America is a holding corporation 90% owned
by The Central Farm of Japan, Ltd. and 10% by Toshoku, Ltd, a large Japanese
trading company specialising in food products. Central Farm of Japan is
owned by Toshoku, Ltd and has been a major customer of DPRI since the 1960s.
Toshoku, Ltd. has been in reorganisation proceedings since December
1997.
Hendrix Poultry Breeders BV
HPB is a layer breeding company
based in Ospel, The Netherlands, EU, and was established in 1991. HPB sells
grandparent and parent breeders to the world wide layer industry. Both
white and brown egg layer genetic products are sold under the brandnames
BOVANS and HISEX. HPB holds a world wide number two position in both
the white and brown segment.
HPB is part of the animal breeding
division of Nutreco Holding NV.
